About Us

Cardiff University Music Society exists to support students at the School of Music. We look to strengthen the link between staff and students and resolve any issues which arise.

We are a bi-lingual committee of 10 elected members which changes each year. We organise Freshers' Week events for new music students, hold an annual ball, provide social events throughout the year and run the weekly student concerts in the University Concert Hall. We look to integrate with the other musical societies, such as the Choral/Big Band/Concert Band societies and the Jazz society, and many of our members belong to several of these groups.

Furthermore, we hope to provide musical opportunities for any student at Cardiff University in any way possible, such as arranging instrumental lessons and forming ensemble groups for people to gain practical music-making experience.

Membership is £10. This may seem a lot but you get all of this for your money:

* Regular social events organised by the committee

* An invaluable link with other musicians, professional and student teachers, accompanists and instrumentalists, choirs and orchestras
* Support for new musical groups
* Performance opportunities around Cardiff and discount on concert tickets arranged by the society
* 3 hours in a Cathays Community Centre Recording studio for £15, and use of PA and other performing equipment free through the society.
